How to feed hungry hounds

An important thing to remember about beagles is that they are hearty eaters. When left to their own devices, they will eat anything along its path. It is important not to overfeed them, regardless of how those hounding eyes might look at you after their meal. Here are some more information on how to feed a pet beagle.

First, feel around for your beagle’s ribs. If you can’t then it might be time for him to lose a pound of two. Puppies about 3 to 4 months old should be fed three small meals a day, and dogs beyond that should be fed twice. The easiest way to feed them is by buying commercial dog food, but you should be careful and read its labels. Look out for chemicals, preservatives and fillers; you should prefer dog food that has all natural ingredients. Kibble, or the dry variety of dog food, is the most popular of its kind and is cheaper than moist or canned food. Aside from the health benefits, kibble helps clean the teeth of dogs because tartar is scraped by the dry bits of food. Another reminder on how to feed a pet beagle is taking into account its daily activities. Does your beagle stay indoors, or does he like to run around outdoors? If so, vary the proportions of his food to suit his daily exercise. More active beagles should have more protein and fat in their diet since they consume high energy. If you are still unsure on how to feed a pet beagle, then it is best to ask your local veterinarian for the recommended food portions and best dog food for him. After all, when caring for your beloved pet, you would want to give the best.
