Up-Close and Personal With Beagles

Are you considering a beagle for a pet? Before you contact your breeder, there are some Beagle facts that might help you decide you should pick another one or not.

Beagles have been around since 400 B.C. During those times, they were recognized as rabbit hunting dogs, a cross breed of a variety of hounds. This breed was originally meant for hunting

For some reasons, many pet-lovers opt for a Beagle even if they are notorious when it comes to teaching tricks. First they have a gentle appearance and friendly manners. They are active and playful and love being around kids. While they are endearing as house pets, beagles leave a terrible impression to dog trainers. It is common knowledge that Beagles are quite stubborn and easily get distracted during training sessions. One would need a lot of patience, consistency, and determination when trying to teach your beagles new tricks.

As Beagles were employed as hunting companions, they have a strong sense of smell for following traces, very agile, intelligent, and courageous but territorial. The beagles seldom show aggression over humans or dogs alike unless they feel that their territory is being invaded.

Physically, Beagles have strong resistance to harsh weather due to their dense, silky coats, and short coats. The minimal length of their coats makes it easier for owner to groom them. Twice a year, the Beagles shed but only to a minimum.

Another Beagle fact is that this breed loves company and cannot be taken for granted for long periods. This will lead to depression that can seriously affect their health. If you are often traveling long miles, it is advisable not to get a Beagle or any pet at all.

Hopefully, these Beagle facts successfully helped you come to a finale. After all, dogs are men’s best friends and they are good at it. Just be good to them.
